High School Information

Middle and High School Rules

1. ONLY leave through the upstairs scanner if you are LEAVING FOR THE DAY

2. There will be a sign out sheet and a monitor at the breakroom door that goes out to the picnic tables.

***ONLY HIGH SCHOOL can go out. YOU MUST SIGN OUT!

3. You may be at the picnic tables. **NOT in the parking lot.

4. Middle School can leave after scanning out, and wait for their parents in the courtyard only at the end of their day.

5. If there are extra volunteers, and someone can monitor, a younger group may be taken outside with supervision.

Please remind your teens that if they go outside they must stay in designated area—to the side of the building in the playground and picnic areas. They need to enter and exit the break room area and must have permission from a break room personnel to do so. We have had lots of problems with them going out the break room area then coming in other doors. Please remind them that privilege carries responsibilities.

Because of liability, please do not climb trees on the church property.

Please do not play electric guitars or any other loud musical instruments anywhere near the building where it might disturb classes.

We will be monitoring this closely and will have the same person at the door every week. There will be ONE (1) warning for not complying with these rules. After that, you will not be allowed outside for the rest of the semester.

Please relay this to all teens, and make sure they know the rules. We take the security of our Coop seriously and hope that everyone will do your best to comply with our policies to protect your children.

High School Guidance Counseling

I am not a trained guidance counselor, but I have spent hours and hours reading and researching the things high schoolers need to know for my own kids. My oldest is now 2nd year at college, so I have been through the whole process of applying for college etc. Over the past years teaching at co-op I have given 'guidance' to a number of high school students, and so I have decided to offer my services to all the co op students.

I will be available every lunch time from 12 - 12.25pm in the music room. They acn bring their lunch and drop in and ask questions whenever they want to. Some of the things I can help them with are:

* What should their senior year look like (colleges like a strong finish ie many credits and reasonably hard courses)
* Where to find scholarships
* SAT or ACT or both?
* SAT subject tests - are they necessary?
* APs / CLEP - useful? Why should you take them? Or rather do Dual Credits?
* The college essay - what are they looking for?
* How to find a college
* How should you prepare for college in grades 9-11
* Community service - is it important?

So -please tell your high schoolers to drop by any lunch time.

I will do my best to help them and point them in the right direction.
