ID Badges and PhotosIf you have a good ID badge from last year, please plan to use it. We will start scanning Thursday morning. If you do not yet have an ID badge, you’ll need to sign in. I printed new badges for all 6th graders and 9th graders since their badge color will change this year. I’m working on making new badges for everyone who had their picture taken at orientation. Please check at the scanner for those badges. These first badges are free, but if you lose yours, we charge $5 to remake another one. If you have red or yellow lanyards or blue, green, or white badge reels from last year that you will not be using this year, please bring them and leave them with the scanner/hall patrol. We can save some money if we recycle those. We will be taking ID pictures Thursday morning in the library. If you have not already had your ID picture taken, please try to allow a little extra time either before classes or after, or during a break to get your ID pictures made. We will try to have someone to take the pictures Thursday afternoon also, but that is not definite yet. ID BadgesWe are trying very hard to follow the procedure—if you don’t have your badge, you can’t come into the building. We will enforce this rule from this point on. We are not trying to be rude, hardnosed, or mean. We are trying to protect the precious charges that have been entrusted to us. Everyone, from teachers to board members have purchased new badges; we enforce the same rules for everyone. Please try to be understanding. Please remember your badges. If you forget your badge, you will need to pay $5 to have a new one printed before entering the building. If someone doesn’t have the $5, we will accept an IOU with the understanding that you won’t be allowed in class the next week until the IOU is paid. We really want the K-3rd graders to have and use red lanyards. This helps the adults to identify them quickly in the hallways. 4th and 5th graders should have and use gold lanyards. Middle Schoolers should have the blue badge reels that match their badges, and the high schoolers should have the green badge reels. Parents and teachers should have white badge reels. If you have any of these lanyards or badge reels at home which you are no longer using or if they are not the right ones, please bring them in and swap them for the right ones. Let’s recycle them from year to year to keep our costs down. The scanner operator has them near her. Thanks. Students will keep their pictures for 3 years. K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and high school are the age rankings. If you want a new picture and it’s not your “moving up” year, you may have one done for the $5.00 charge. The badges are very time consuming and expensive to make, so we will try to keep this under control by only doing pictures for the kids who are new or moving up each year. A New Appreciation For Our ID BadgesI thought some of you might enjoy this real-life story that I experienced today. In the middle of my busy day, trying to get our cafe ready to open on Friday night, I received a call from Mary Wegman. Someone, a good Samaritan, had called her because he found a wallet on the Wal-Mart parking lot. It was my son's. It had his license and other items in it (no money). The only item in his wallet with a phone number on it was his Thursday Connection student ID card. He called the number on it and, of course, got Mary Wegman. When he told her about the wallet, she called me; and I was able to go back to Wal-Mart and retrieve his wallet from this very thoughtful person. So I have a new appreciation for the student ID cards. Just thought I would share my experience.
