Destination Imagination at Global Finals

Team “Look Behind You” invites you to be our guest at the Destination Imagination Globals at the University of Tennessee Wed-Sat, May 26-29th, 2010 (see schedule of events at http://www.globalfinals.org/index.php/events). Because our school has a winning Tennessee “home team” advantage, we can offer you FREE guest passes (these passes are sold to out-of-state visitors for 70 dollars per day). At the Globals, you’ll be able to see the performances of 1000+ teams from all over the world and their creative solutions to the DI challenges (on engineering, architectural, improvisational, and artistic topics).

In order to get these passes, please sign up this Thursday, and list everyone you may bring at any time during the four-day Globals period, from birth to elderly (this is required by UTK for insurance purposes). Indicate the day(s) you will attend (we will let you know which day we are competing as soon as that information is announced, but you can attend any and all days). The passes include lunch and all the amazing activities at Globals. There will be a signup form available at the scanner and at Mary’s desk.

We will also have a container in which you may place donations for the team (make checks out to Thursday Connection with “DI Globals team” in the note line). Team Look Behind You must raise 5000 dollars by May 15th in order to enter this competition. All donations are tax deductible.

We are also looking for businesses willing to sponsor our team. If interested, please contact mwegman@knology.net or 690-0871 for more info. We have an offer of advertising for your business in exchange for sponsorship. Again, all donations are tax deductible.

Thursday Connection had four teams in the DI competition this year, and we plan to participate next year, as well. Come join us at Globals to learn more about an opportunity that your children can take advantage of next year. Thanks, and we hope you’ll come to this great event to cheer our team on and help us show the world that homeschooled students can compete with the best internationally!

Congratulations to our Destination Imagination Teams!

Congrats to all of our Thursday Connection Destination Imagination teams that competed at the state competition in Nashville on Saturday. They all did a great job and represented us well.

One of our middle school teams, “Look Behind You”, coached by Miriam Larson finished first in their category and have qualified for the global competition. This is a huge honor and we congratulate Miriam and her team-Brenna and Margaux Armfield, Mason Beebe, Nathan Glandon, Sawyer Irvine, Micah Larson, and Nathan Wegman.

Globals are to be held at UTK May 26-30,and as the friend of a winning local team, there will be an awesome opportunity for your family to obtain the 70 dollar spectator passes for this event for free! Be watching for further details.

The cost of globals will be approx $5000 dollars. This team is looking for sponsors and contributions. If your business could sponsor them, please contact Mary Wegman at mwegman@knology.net for further information. All donations are tax deductible and Thursday Connection would love to be able to send this team to represent us.
